As a Winnetka photographer who has spent years capturing portraits and weddings along this stretch of the North Shore, I know the village the way only someone who has worked its lakefront, its tree-lined streets, and its storied gathering places can. From the brick sidewalks of Hubbard Woods to the quiet elegance of downtown Winnetka’s boutiques and cafes, this community is one of the most beautiful backdrops on Chicago’s North Shore — and it is where some of my favorite sessions take place.

Senior Portraits in Winnetka

Winnetka is home to New Trier Township High School, one of the most well-known public high schools in the country. Every spring and summer, I work with New Trier seniors who want portraits that feel like them — not stiff, not overdone, just real and elevated. Hair and makeup are included with every portrait session, so you show up, get pampered, and walk into your session feeling confident.

We typically start at one location and move to a second so your gallery has variety. For New Trier seniors, I love beginning at Elder Lane Beach, where the wide sandy shoreline and weathered wooden stairs down to the water give us that effortless, golden-hour lakefront look. From there, we might walk the Green Bay Trail, a shaded path that runs parallel to the Metra tracks through canopies of old oaks and elms — gorgeous for dappled light and quieter, editorial-style images. If you want an urban feel without leaving town, the Hubbard Woods shopping district has textured brick walls, awnings, and a neighborhood charm that photographs beautifully.

I also work with seniors from nearby Loyola Academy and North Shore Country Day, both of whom often choose Winnetka spots for their sessions. No matter which school you attend, the goal is the same: images that capture who you are right now, in a place that means something to you.

Weddings in Winnetka

Winnetka’s wedding venues are some of the most elegant on the entire North Shore. The Winnetka Community House, with its classic stone exterior and grand interior hall, is a timeless setting for both ceremonies and receptions. I have photographed weddings there in every season, and the way the light pours through the tall windows in late afternoon is stunning.

For couples with access to one of the village’s private clubs, the Indian Hill Club and North Shore Country Club both offer manicured grounds, lush gardens, and refined event spaces. These venues reward a photographer who knows the property — where to take couples during golden hour, which corners of the grounds catch the best light, and how to use the architecture to frame candid moments. That familiarity is something I bring to every Winnetka wedding I photograph.

Even if your ceremony or reception is elsewhere, Winnetka makes a beautiful location for first-look photos or bridal portraits. The lakefront parks, the quiet residential streets lined with historic homes, and the mature landscaping throughout the village give us options that feel private and unhurried.

Branding Photography in Winnetka

Winnetka’s business community may be small, but it is intentional. Entrepreneurs, consultants, realtors, and wellness professionals who serve the North Shore need branding images that reflect the polish and warmth their clients expect. I create branding sessions tailored to your work — whether that means lifestyle portraits among the shops of Elm Street, headshots with a clean, natural backdrop, or a full content session that gives you months of social media imagery. Hair and makeup are included, so you look and feel your best from the first frame.

Favorite Session Spots in Winnetka

Elder Lane Beach — This is the session spot I recommend most often in Winnetka. The beach faces east, which means sunset light wraps around from behind the bluff and fills the sand with warm, even tones. The wooden staircase leading down to the water is a portrait location in itself, and the wide shoreline gives us room to move without crowds.

Green Bay Trail — Running north-south through the heart of the village, this crushed-limestone path is shaded by a dense canopy of mature hardwoods. In early fall, when the leaves start to turn, the trail becomes a tunnel of amber and gold. It is one of the most underrated portrait locations on the North Shore.

Lloyd Beach and Tower Road Park — Just south of Elder Lane, Lloyd Beach is smaller and more secluded, which makes it ideal for intimate couple sessions or quieter senior shoots. The adjacent Tower Road Park area adds a grassy, elevated vantage point above the lake.

Crow Island School Grounds — While the landmark Eliel Saarinen-designed school itself is a piece of architectural history, the surrounding grounds — open fields, sculptural trees, and clean mid-century lines — provide a unique backdrop that you simply cannot find anywhere else in the North Shore suburbs.
